The Beaujolais earth is primarily ochre limestone. The
ochre limestone colours the Beaujolais scenery; it is
in the stone buildings and scattered along the valleys,
giving a luminous, warm and relaxing golden colour.
There is an old saying that three rivers flow in the
capital of the Gaules: the Rhône, the Saone, and
the Beaujolais. After a visit to the historic heart of
Lyon, one is invited to stroll along the golden curved
hills of Beaujolais, which are coated with vines and fed
by a source that never dries up.
